Honda on Thursday gave a first look at its redesigned HR-V in a couple of teaser sketches.
The new sub-compact crossover will be released later this year as a 2023 model, and the teasers suggest that there may be a rugged version that potentially carries a TrailSport badge. They show the new HR-V in a snow-covered landscape with some thick wheels and a pair of snowboards strapped to the roof.
Honda introduced the TrailSport class on its updated 2022 Passport crossover, and has indicated that we will see it offered on other models. On the pass, an upgrade to the TrailSport qualities adds thick wheels and tires, plus some styling adjustments that give the vehicle a tougher look. There are also interior details, such as orange accent stitching and mats for all kinds of weather that can be rinsed off for easy cleaning.
Teaser for 2023 Honda HR-V
Honda unveiled a redesigned HR-V for global markets in early 2021, but this is not the vehicle on its way to US showrooms. The version for the US is expected to be slightly larger and offer more ground clearance in the back seat. It will also have a unique style and most likely a unique driveline.
The outgoing HR-V is offered exclusively with a 1.8-liter inline-4 good for 141 hp. It is possible that the redesigned HR-V is offered with Civic’s base engine, a 2.0-liter inline-4 that is good for 158 hp. A stepless unit will probably be the only transmission, and four-wheel drive should be available.
