ALBANY, NY (WIVB) – The New York State Department of Health announced Saturday afternoon that 40 hospitals across the country will have to suspend non-essential, non-urgent elective procedures for at least two weeks due to “limited manned patient bed capacity.”

Ten of these 40 hospitals are in the western New York area. The state DOH said in a press release that this is a step in line with Governor Kathy Hochul’s announcement on November 26 to ensure there is sufficient hospital bed capacity to get through the COVID-19 winter hike.
