ARLINGTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – One by one, 911 flags were placed in Arlington Veterans Park. They honored the thousands of people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and the hero who went beyond.
Next Saturday it is 20 years since the attacks. In Arlington, they will be celebrating an entire week.

“I think a day or a weekend would not be enough given the seriousness that happened 20 years ago,” Clete McAlister said.
The week starts tomorrow morning at 10. There will be a concert and even “the heroes run” – a 5K race. Everyone is welcome to attend during the week and come with respect.
“I hope we never forget it and I know it’s a statement that has been used since the day the attacks took place, but I think we need to remind the next generation what happened,” said Paul Fulks.

Organizer, Clete McAlister, says visitors can also drop by to see these new columns plastered with photos of veterans. Some of them date from World War II.
It is something special the city added to honor everyone who has paid the ultimate sacrifice to serve our country.
“What we’ve learned is that there are a lot of people in Arlington who are very patriotic and want to support the kind of things we do,” McAlister said.
