A teenage driver with seven people was killed and two others seriously injured after a head-on collision with a taxi.

The young driver of the Volkswagen Polo died and all seven passengers were driven to the hospital, police investigating the case confirmed.

The front and rear passengers remain in serious condition after the Polo crashed head-on into an oncoming taxi across the road in Tongham, a green village in Surrey.

The taxi driver – who was not transporting passengers at the time – sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital, but was later discharged.

Orange Taxis in Farnham confirmed with The Mirror that it was one of their drivers involved in the collision and that he was not seriously injured.

Another driver who passed the area said “children” today have been out laying flowers in tribute at the scene.

Detective Sergeant Kani Barawi, who is handling the incident, said in a press release: “Our thoughts continue with the boys’ families involved in this tragic incident, which has left a teenager dead and two more in a serious condition in hospital.

“We are working hard to determine the circumstances of the accident and will appeal to anyone with information to contact us immediately.”

The detective confirmed with The Mirror that the collision had taken place and asked witnesses to get in touch with any information.

At present, police are not prepared to share personal information about the dead motorist and his passengers.

An autopsy will be performed on the dead driver’s body to determine the exact cause of his death, and an investigation will be opened and later postponed by Surrey coroner.

Police understood to investigate why the Polo carried eight people and whether the number of people contributed to the crash.
