Aaron Carter is officially the father.

“I Want Candy” singer, 33, welcomed his first child, a son named Prince, with fiancée Melanie Martin, Carter announced Monday.

Prince arrived after Martin underwent an emergency caesarean section after 13 hours of labor.

The musician shared a photo of himself cutting his baby’s umbilical cord, praising his fiancée for bringing their son into the world.

“Emergency C Section after 13 hours of birth, but my fiancé is in good health thank you sir and the incredibly sweet loving staff here. The prince is precious I love you son. Your mother loves you while I shed tears on the phone. During his partner’s 13 hours of labor, Carter shared videos from the birth suite and kept his fans updated with the baby’s progress.

The happy news comes more than a year after the couple announced in a YouTube livestream in June 2020 that Martin had had a miscarriage two months after sharing April that they were expecting their first child.

“She suffered an abortion because of stressful situations,” Carter said in the livestream. “We will give it some time, let her whole, and then we will try again. We both want that. I have to take care of her.”

Last April, Martin shared a photo of a sonogram to her Instagram page, apparently announcing she was waiting.

When he spoke exclusively to PEOPLE in April 2020, Carter expressed his enthusiasm for becoming a father.

“This is what we both want,” the musician said of his future with Martin. “We both tried it. I’m just focused on the future and being a dad. I want to be a good dad. I’m focused, my music career has done really well, and I’ve toured with my clothesline out, all that, I have that which is not necessarily just music. Family is most important to me. “

Carter made the couple’s relationship with Instagram official in January 2020. At the time, he shared a photo of them, which has since been deleted, with the caption: “She loves me, she does not love me, she woke me up from sleeping, but I I’m not complaining 🦁. “

In June of that year, the singer revealed on her Instagram that he and Martin were engaged, and shared a photo of an engagement ring on her left hand.

“Lövē wins ❤️😍💍,” he wrote in the caption to the post, adding the hashtags # iloveyou3000 #engaged #engaged and #ourlovestory.
