The Office of Student Services aims to assist undergraduate students in their academic and personal success by building an inclusive community of student support made up of faculty, staff, peers, alumni and extensive resources from across the college and university.

What you will do:

Provide executive support, project management, and office/technology management for the CALS Office of Academic Programs. Support calendaring, communication, and projects for three active administrators in OAP: the CALS Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Assistant Dean of Academic Programs and Student Success, and the Director of Curriculum Development and Instructional Support. Primary support staff for NYSED/SUNY program filings, the Research Honors Program, CALS Teaching Experience workshop, academic unit/major annual assessments, TA allocation planning, undergraduate and graduate research funding award process. Organize events, such as the annual Outstanding TA Luncheon, Research Honors Reception, and monthly Learning Community workshops. Work with the CALS Communication Office to create and revise web pages. Perform records and data management and reporting. Serve as the OAP telecommunications coordinator, liaison with appropriate units in office set up for new employees, computer rotation cycle manager, and emergency/safety contact. Oversee maintenance and repair of certain office equipment and assist with coordination of other office projects, supplies, events, and purchases as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree and 4 to 6 years relevant experience as an Administrative Assistant or equivalent combination.
  • Proficiency in file maker and electronic calendaring.
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills are necessary.
  • Position requires verbal and written skills as well as a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to interact effectively and easily with the Senior Associate Deans and with the other Administrative Assistants is a must.
  • Demonstrated experience as an independent thinker and self motivated.
  • Prior knowledge of Cornell policies and procedures.
  • Able to work effectively with faculty, administrators and staff.
  • Must be able to conduct a diverse set of tasks with poise, confidence and independence within a team-based environment.
  • Proven skills in project management and coordination.
  • Able to work quickly and effectively under pressure, use judgment in accomplishing tasks that are urgent; balance conflicting priorities, and make decisions from a range of choices.

Preferred Qualifications:

There are a few other qualifications that that would be incredibly helpful in this role, to include:

  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in developing and Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years experience in an upper-level academic setting.
  • Calendaring, Excel, Writing and Communication, Service and people oriented
