Senator Amy Klobuchar said Sunday that the Supreme Court’s latest ruling that allowed a law in Texas banning most abortions to “shout” to Judge Stephen Breyer to consider retiring “sooner rather than later.”
“If he is seriously considering retiring – and he has said he would do so based on not only his own health but also the future of the court – if this decision does not scream at it, I do not know what does”, Said the Minnesota Democrat on CNN’s “Union of State.”
“It will not change the results [of rulings] necessarily, but at least it does not put it at 7-2, ”said Klobuchar.
Focus on the future of the 83-year-old justice in court intensified after the death of former Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who chose to retire when former President Barack Obama and Democrats controlled Washington.
The decision ultimately set the stage for former President Donald Trump to put Amy Coney Barrett on trial after Ginburg’s death last year.
The Supreme Court now has a 6-3 Conservative majority.
Justice Breyer is the oldest of the Liberal judges on right.
