Cal coach Justin Wilcox landed his second Bay Area high school football standout this week when Menlo-Atherton defensive back / wide receiver Jeremiah Earby announced Friday that he will play for the Golden Bears.
Rated a three-star view of 247Sports, Earby had offers from Oregon State and several Mountain West schools, including San Jose State.
Earby follows San Ramon Valley lineman Jackson Brown, who announced Monday that he chose Cal.
In his team’s season-opening 56-41 loss to Bellarmine last week, Earby captured five passes to 221 yards and three touchdowns. He also intercepted a pass and had three tackles.
“I chose Cal because it was a good atmosphere when I was there and it was very welcoming,” Earby said 247Sports national recruitment editor Brandon Huffman. “The academics are amazing and that was one of the things I wanted in a college and one that had a great football program. I just had a gut feeling that I wanted to go there. ”
Earby told Huffman he will now focus exclusively on his senior season, which continues Friday night at home against Tualatin (Oregon).
