Responsibilities:
Working closely with the Senior Director of Prospect Development, the Assistant Director of Prospect Management oversees the pipeline activity for principal and major gift pipelines. Through data analysis and portfolio optimization, a focus on building best practices for active, results-oriented moves management. The Assistant Director will proactively analyze and report out pipeline trends and highlights to leadership. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Prospect Management serves as an intermediary with Advancement Information Systems and Research to ensure that current, complete and appropriate prospect information is available to university fundraisers. The Assistant Director will provide direct, day-to-day management of 2 professional staff members. Management of this position includes oversight of direct reports’ duties and annual goal setting and performance evaluation/management.

Duties are as follows:

Develop and Lead Prospect Management Program (25%): Proactively supervise, mentor and lead prospect management efforts; develop and expand policies, procedures and systems as necessary. Plan, manage and administer a comprehensive program focused on principal and major donor pipelines; participate in the planning and development of special initiatives; ensure that ethical standards are met by staff; coordinate the maintenance and dissemination of prospect management data; provide reliable and timely qualitative and quantitative data and trend analysis, supporting the strategic and tactical planning and operational effectiveness of the university’s fundraising; analyze the program’s goals and objectives; develop and implement policies, design and provide management reports to assist senior management and fundraising staff with assessing and tracking fund raising progress and results.

Prospect Management (60%): Mentor and lead prospect management staff; establish best practices; evaluate prospect management systems in place at peer institutions; develop and expand policies, procedures and systems necessary for the management of major and principal gift prospects/donors; develop training materials and conduct training sessions. Active participation at all levels of Prospect Management.

Project-based Prospect Development efforts (15%): support the ongoing efforts of the university to identify and evaluate prospective donors; keep abreast of data and information related to wealth creation and philanthropy; overall support for Identification and Prospect Research programs.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree required.
  • Five or more years of development office experience required, preferably in higher education or a non-profit organization.
  • Excellent organizational and project management experience.
  • Excellent information systems experience; proficient in MS-Office Suite, database programs such as Access, combined with experience working with a relational database system such as Salesforce.
  • Strong working knowledge of prospect management and tracking systems.
  • Ability to manage a variety of projects and assignments simultaneously.
  • Experience managing staff a plus.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sense of humor a must.
