Job Description

The Department of Languages and Communication invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Communication (tenure-track). The ideal candidate will specialize in Multimedia Journalism. The successful candidate can demonstrate and is committed to teaching students to expand and extend digital storytelling especially in and about underrepresented communities. The Department is committed to fostering a culturally diverse and inclusive intellectual community.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in Communication or Journalism. Degree must be in hand by August 2022.

  • Experience in audio and visual storytelling, especially audio, photos, and video.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Competence in teaching classes in one or more of the following areas: data journalism, multimedia journalism, news writing and reporting, photojournalism, investigative journalism, strategic communication, and/or business journalism.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of professional experience as a journalist.

  • Three years of experience teaching in a University/College setting.

  • Proficiency in Photoshop and with DSLR cameras.

  • Proficiency in audio/video production.

  • Ability to assist in development of new courses in journalism.

  • Ability to assist students with internship placement in journalism and related fields.
