The Hamilton Lugar School of Global and Internationals Studies’ Living Learning Center (LLC) is a tight-knit
residential community of engaged, globally minded students. Located on the fourth floor of Spruce Hall, one of IU’s most modern facilities,
the LLC puts students on the path to global leadership through a tailored program of activities such as simulations, student-run debates,
and professional development opportunities. We seek to hire an Associate Director to assist with growing the LLC into a centerpiece of our
school and the student experience.

The Associate Director will be responsible for coordinating experiential and educational programs,
value added educational experiences, and social activities for all students interested in professional fields and degrees related to global
and international studies. In addition, the Associate Director will be responsible for (1) recruiting students and helping them navigate
day-to-day life, (2) coordinating arrangements to host high-profile guest speakers, and (3) supporting the Director in assessment and
evaluation efforts.

The Associate Director will work closely with the Director of the LLC to establish and implement a strategic
vision for the LLC, oversee policy, and prioritize objectives and steps to ensure the long-term success of the LLC and our students.

Job Summary

Fundamental Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs and implements programs or events,
    including the creation of materials to support these events.
  • Provides staff communications and serves as liaison to program
    participants, collaborators in other units, community partners, vendors and the public; approves staff purchase requests; arranges staff
    travel, accommodations, and research activities.
  • Provides mechanisms, training, and advice on a variety of issues such as budget
    management software and advanced strategies for timely spending of grant funds. May be responsible for meeting revenue targets.
  • Recruits, trains, directs, schedules, and evaluates faculty and staff partners, students and volunteers. Mentors, serves as a resource
    and provides guidance to team staff members as needed.
  • Researches available grants and works closely with managers to identify
    funding needs and potential sources, creates grant proposals that further advance support of the program and program participants; May be
    responsible for meeting revenue targets.
  • Constructs and administers program budgets and approves spending. Tracks progress on
    deliverables, analyzes data on projected spending and prepares reports for higher management and funding sources.
  • Keep abreast of
    best practices to recommend policies and procedures that deliver a quality program experience.

Department-Specific
Responsibilities:

  • The Associate Director will work with the HLS Recruitment team to recruit strong applicants into the
    LLC. This will require strategic marketing, presentations to a variety of audiences, one-on-one conversations, and follow-up.
  • The
    Associate Director will work closely with students, often on a daily basis, and will be an integral part of community-building and student
    support efforts. The Associate Director will also work with faculty and staff from within and outside the Hamilton Lugar School to ensure
    student engagement and success.
  • The Associate Director will be part of an entrepreneurial and creative team that focuses on
    enhancing the student experience, problem-solving, and strategic planning, and seeks to create an environment of collegiality with all
    constituencies.
  • The Associate Director will assist in the assessment and evaluation of student satisfaction and program
    effectiveness through survey development, data management, analysis, and reporting.
  • The Associate Director will be responsible for
    managing the administrative aspects and day-to-day office needs of the LLC. This position will need to work with SGIS and campus colleagues
    to ensure the needs of the LLC are met and running smoothly.
  • The Associate Director will work independently to manage multiple
    tasks simultaneously in a high-performing, relationship-oriented team environment. This position requires a flexible schedule as student
    programming occurs throughout the day, 7 days a week. Regular work will include evening programs, and occasional out-of-town travel.
    Frequent student email and telephone contact outside of regular hours should be expected.
  • This is a growth-oriented position and
    the Associate Director will develop, with our support, additional capacities and skills as the position grows and evolves. Potential for
    growth will be considered in lieu of required experience for the right candidate.
  • The Associate Director will develop the
    capacities and skills they may currently lack to perform responsibilities that the position has not required in actual historical
    practice.

  • 2 years in a related field

  • 2 years of
    professional experience in higher education, residential programs, student affairs, counseling, social work, diversity and inclusion, or
    related fields.
  • Experience and/or interest in international affairs, global issues, foreign policy, languages or related
    fields.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to
effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as
well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential
functions with or without an accommodation.

Possession of a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana
University, as travel will be required.
