The music that Avi Mack creates and shares testifies to his desire to truly be himself in all aspects of his life, and although his songs are unapologetically pop, they are full of substance. Born in Texas, raised in Canada and now a South African local, the life Avi has lived allows him to have and express a rather unique perspective on the world. While he is not afraid to address many of today’s social issues, his music is driven by a juxtaposition of personal experience as well as a deeper thought process of personal growth – and nowhere is this more evident than on his EP ‘Maye Never’, which PopWrapped is looking forward to the premiere.
Avi says about the collection: “Maybe never” is really a search for security. I have struggled with the idea that nothing is really safe. That we all live in a fluid state. The EP speaks to what there are just so many things that feel ambiguous in my life. Where there is no categorical answer, only a sense of spectrum that could go both ways. It is to understand that emotions are not binary and have spectrum and movement in them, the game that I am always looking for security but can never really achieve. ”
He further adds that: “’Maybe never’ is about being an idea for someone and about the relationship that follows from it. It flows from the beginning and starting tension of the relationship, to the deterioration of it, the loss and the grief and finally the process of reflection that we all follow in relationships. But more than that, there is commitment with myself. I write in so many ways to understand myself. ”
When asked what he would achieve with and through the EP, he shares that ‘Maybe Never’ is: “… my first piece of work and I really wanted to create something that felt holistic. I wanted it to feel like it was part of something bigger and an extension of my thought process at this point in my life. It has been something I have really poured myself into. ”
