Here is the first official trailer (+ poster) for Liz Garbus’ doc Bliver Cousteau, directly from YouTube:
For this extraordinary and immersive documentary, Liz Garbus poured 550 hours of archival material through and never before seen footage to let Cousteau’s films, words and memoirs tell her own story. Becoming Cousteau creates focus on the man many of us grew up worshiping but still knew very little about. After expecting oil companies to support his adventure of trotting on global trot, he got a wake-up call late in life and became the first major proponent of ocean conservation. He led a somewhat broken family life, checkered with great loss, but he remained true to his one great love – the sea. Over 100 hours of audio journal entries, interviews and observations from collaborators and crew members add this insight into Cousteau. Bliver Cousteau is directed by the acclaimed doc filmmaker Liz Garbus, director of many award-winning doc films including Different mothers, Girlhood, The wife of the Nazi officer, Bobby Fischer against the world, Love Marilyn, What happened to Miss Simone?, Who killed Garrett Phillips?, and All In: The Struggle for Democracy recently. This premieres at the Telluride Film Festival in 2021 this year. NatGeo then releases Bliver Cousteau in selected American theaters starts October 22, 2021 this fall.
