Charm, Disney’s latest movie about one family and Colombia assigned magical powers from their magical house, it seems to be getting quite charming. (This is something Disney trailers usually are good at do…most of the time.) With the film just a few weeks away, Disney released a featurette about the making of the film that is as lively and energetic as the film itself.

Stephanie Beatriz stars as Mirabel, the only member of the Madrigal family who has not received a magical gift. The actor has primarily been known for playing tough characters like Rosa Diaz on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Batwoman in the upcoming Catwoman: Jaget movies, and getting the chance to play a fresher character was “a lot of fun.” It’s a little nice to see her fool around in the recording booth and use her “regular” voice that you may not have heard before.

Since the crew was located in Colombia, the crew wanted to do their research and present the country as accurately as possible. Director and co-author Jared Bush described the Cocora Valley as “one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been,” and they eventually decided it would be the perfect place for Madrigal’s house. how they settled in the Cocora Valley to the home of the madrigal. The valley is said to have the tallest palm trees in the world (called wax palms) that can grow up to 200 feet, and you can see some of these trees in the video itself.

Like so many Other things movie this year, Charm have Lin-Manuel Miranda handle his music. Miranda has previously talked to us about how the film breaks with ordinary Disney tradition by keeping the family around the entire film, and he has loved writing music with all the madrigals in mind. “It was such a joy writing music for these incredible characters … I think people will see themselves in different family members.” After participating from the start, he enjoyed immersing himself in Colombian music, and the result is what he calls “a joyful experience” to work on.

Charm coming to the cinema and Disney + on November 24th.
