The Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine Compass has an opening for a full-time University Staff
(unclassified) BI Developer
position.

Department Summary:

Health Data Compass (Compass) is the
technology innovation arm of the Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine, CU’s banner initiative to improve patient health through the
science of personalized medicine. Compass maintains, develops, and innovates within a data integration and analytics platform on
cutting-edge, cloud-based technologies to support biomedical research and clinical excellence throughout the CU research enterprise and our
hospital partners.

Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of the BI Developer is to analyze and deliver datasets
in response to faculty healthcare-data requests. The BI Developer will contribute to Compass’s mission of serving the Anschutz research
community within a HIPAA compliant environment. The BI Developer will support and mentor the data delivery team, as well as support health
care investigators, faculty, and staff, internal and external to Compass. A successful BI Developer candidate will own and drive requests
and projects to completion, communicate expectations, be a creative problem solver, and write documentation clearly and concisely.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Writes and delivers SQL queries to create high quality data sets or data marts. The
    BI Developer executes assigned data requests within scope, quality and targeted timeline for delivery. As necessary the BI Developer will
    identify and communicate data anomalies.
  • Strives for positive customer experiences as determined by project completion surveys
    and customer interviews. The BI Developer demonstrates strong reliability and responsiveness by communicating internally and externally
    within 24 business hours.
  • Works closely with Compass Data Analyst for data requests where Compass Data Analyst leads customer
    engagement, scoping and request documentation. For projects without an assigned Compass Data Analyst the BI Developer will fulfill this
    role.
  • Conducts accurate and timely documentation of project effort and status using Compass case management system.

  • Schedules and coordinates meetings with faculty or study teams as necessary to discuss data requests.
  • Contributes to data
    delivery process optimization and organizational policy refinement.
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism
  • May
    facilitate, process and/or escalate user requirements for data and infrastructure in the Compass Google Cloud Platform, following
    organizational policies and procedures.

Salary and Benefits:

  • The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $58,481 – $74,388
  • The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to,
    internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
  • The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the
    University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
  • This position is
    not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in a health science related field (e.g. biostatistics, epidemiology, etc.) or technology (e.g. computer science,
    engineering, etc.), or a related field from an accredited institution
  • At least two (2) years of experience working with
    enterprise data warehouses, including data profiling, data quality assessments, data analysis/reporting, data set curation OR experience
    with SQL programming OR experience with clinical healthcare
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the
    time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a health science related field (e.g.
    biostatistics, epidemiology, etc.) or technology (e.g. computer science, engineering, etc.), or a related field from an accredited
    institution
  • Advanced BI Developer skills
  • Experience managing terminology mapping documentation, data profiling and
    data mapping documentation
  • Experience in standardized clinical code systems (e.g. SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm) and common data
    models (OMOP)
  • Experience with data manipulation languages (e.g. SAS, R, Python)
  • Experience with clinical data and/or
    reporting from EHR (e.g. Epic proficiencies or certifications or experience with Epic Clarity/Caboodle)

Competencies:

  • Experience working in an academic core service or support service
  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • SQL skills for querying data (especially Google Big Query)
  • BI
    developer skills (e.g. Tableau reports)
  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, attention to detail and accuracy, and
    strong inter-personal skills
  • Strong ability to communicate with development teams throughout SDLC lifecycle, ability to support
    development of BI dashboards and reports, and data analytic initiatives
