President Joe Biden is telling people that he plans to run for re-election in 2024 despite concerns about his age and declining approval ratings, The Washington Post reported.

“The only thing I’re heard him say is that he’s planning to run again,” former Senator Chris Dodd told The Post. “And I’m glad he is.”

“What he says publicly is what he is convinced of. There is no difference,” former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, who attended an event where Biden told donors that he plans to run, also told the magazine. “He will not run if he feels he can not do the job physically or emotionally.”

Concerns over Biden’s declining approval ratings have renewed questions about whether he will seek re-election. His approval rating has dropped consistently since July, while his rejection rating has grown. According to FiveThirtyEight’s average poll, Biden’s approval rating is 42.5 percent, and his disapproval rating is 51.8 percent.

Biden turned 79 last Saturday, where his age was another factor that was questioned. In a report released Friday that followed a physical, Biden’s doctor said he was “healthy, energetic” and “fit to successfully perform the presidency duties.”

A Democratic donor, Barry Goodman, told The Post that he and other donors are just hoping former President Donald Trump will run again in 2024, regardless of whether Biden runs.

Goodman, who served on Biden’s finance committee for his 2020 campaign, said they “pray for Trump to run.”

“I think no matter who runs, a Democrat will beat him,” he told the newspaper. “Ultimately, people will not put that despot in office again.”

Trump has not officially announced a 2024 bid, though he has teased it several times. Trump’s age, 75, has also been discussed as a potential concern.
