EAST RUTHERFORD – Gather fans from the New York Giants: G-Men officially joins the Marvel Universe.
The New York Giants are teaming up with Marvel for an Avengers-inspired crossover this season that is considered an “integrated collaboration” that will draw inspiration right from the comics and throw Big Blue into a world of iconic superheroes.
Imagine Saquon Barkley as Captain America, Sterling Shepard as Black Panther, Daniel Jones as Thor and Leonard Williams as Iron Man, just to name a few.
Well, it happens, and the initiative will include a Giants-themed cartoon released as part of a Marvel Super Hero Day campaign on the October 24 game at MetLife Stadium against the Carolina Panthers.
And here’s an even cooler development: Barkley, Shepard, Jones, Williams, Logan Ryan and Blake Martinez will appear in this cartoon, which will be an original story created by Marvel with the Giants fighting alongside the actual Avengers.
“A special part of this whole process is that our players have been invested in creating their own characters, and that’s something we think is very unique, and Marvel – when we go back in their history – does not often do that. maybe ever, “Giants told Chief Commercial Officer Pete Guelli to NorthJersey.com and the United States TODAY Network. “It’s an incredible intersection between two iconic brands. I sometimes think people overestimate it, but I don’t think you can in this case. Marvel has well over 200 million fans across its platforms, and it’s fans we will talk to. “
This promises to be the most integrated work yet between the NFL and Marvel. There will be a cross-country campaign, and the Giants originally approached Marvel six months ago to see if there was a way to combine the brands. Guelli credited Nilay Shah, the Giants’ vice president of digital marketing, for joining the players and getting the most out of their commitment.
“We look forward to seeing the Giants come to life on the pages of our comics, and we’ve excited to share Marvel’s storytelling with Giants fans everywhere,” said Mike Pasciullo, vice president of marketing and communications at Marvel Entertainment.
The first 30,000 fans to enter the gates of MetLife Stadium for the Giants Panthers game will receive an exclusive collectible copy of the cartoon, while a digital version will also be available for fans to view on Marvel.com. An exclusive Giants-themed Marvel poster will also be available to season ticket holders later in August.
“When we approached each of our guys, they were immediately on board,” Guelli said. “And they’ve been involved in coming up with ideas for what their characters would look like. We’ve been through several iterations, and they’ve been very involved.”
Inspired by the cover of an Avengers cartoon, the Giants recreated the scene where their six players take on the roles of superheroes with Barkley as Captain America, Jones as Thor, Shepard as Black Panther, Williams as Iron Man, Blake Martinez as Quicksilver and Logan Ryan as Daredevil.
“The Marvel brand is so ubiquitous,” Guelli said. “And when we brought it to [Giants coach] Joe Judge, his reaction was great, he loved it. So we’re still planning things we can do. I mean, our players love it, their family members love it, or they have kids who love it. This just hits a number of different places for us as an organization and we are excited to see the giants and our players come alive in the comics and be a part of the Marvel Universe. “
