Amari Cooper, DeMarcus Lawrence is not expected back for the Cowboys until after the 2nd preseason game

Amari Cooper and DeMarcus Lawrence have not yet dressed during training camp. Wideout and edge rusher were placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list before camp; Cooper has an ankle problem and Lawrence is dealing with a back injury.

While the team has not expressed any official concern that no superstar is ready for kickoff in the regular season, it is always disturbing that a starter lacks valuable training time with their unit. Coaches, players and fans will no doubt feel reassured to see all of the team’s A-lists get quality representatives.

For Cooper and Lawrence, it sounds like it won’t happen until the team returns to The Star in Frisco after their camping trip in California.

Owner Jerry Jones was asked about the status of both players; team staff writer David Helman notes that Jones had a short answer for when they are left in the mixture.

“I bet it’s after Arizona,” Jones said.

The Cowboys head to Canton next week for the Hall of Fame game and then return to Oxnard for another week of training. They skip a short flight to Glendale to face the Cardinals on Sept. 13 and then return home to Dallas afterwards.

That leaves the team with three weeks and two preseason games before Week 1’s meeting with Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Good time for veterans like Cooper and Lawrence to get up to speed.

“We get some gaming activity, I think, out of all those guys,” Jones offered.
