Kelly Clarkson pays Brandon Blackstock nearly $ 200,000 a month in spouse and child support

Kelly Clarkson is now required to pay her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock almost $ 200,000 per. month in spouse and child support.

A Los Angeles County judge on Tuesday ruled that Clarkson should pay Blackstock $ 150,000 a year. Month in spousal support and $ 45,601 per month. Month in child support, THE PEOPLE have learned.

The event means Blackstock, 43, receives a total of $ 195,601 from Clarkson each month, or approx. $ 2.4 million a year. The order also requires the singer to pay $ 1.25 million for her stranger’s lawyer’s fees and costs for their ongoing divorce.

A source told former PEOPLE that Blackstock had been aims at more than double the amount of aidand requested that Clarkson pay him $ 436,000 a month ($ 301,000 in spousal support and $ 135,000 in child support).

Clarkson is represented by celebrity lawyer Laura Wasser, who was recently launched It’s over easy. The service helps streamline the divorce process for people who might not otherwise be able to get her services.

Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020 after seven years of marriage.

Earlier this month, Clarkson appealed to a judge to officially sign his divorceleaving other events such as spouse and child support at a later date.

In a statement filed by PEOPLE in court, Clarkson argued that she and Blackstock “both deserve the opportunity to build a new life.”

Back in November, a judge in LA County gave Clarkson primary physical custody of their children River Rose, 6, and Remington Alexander, 4.

A source close to the family told PEOPLE at a time when Clarkson is “satisfied” with custody and that her priority is to protect her children.

“As Kelly has said, her first priority in all of this is to take care of the children and all the hearts involved in this divorce,” said another source. “It’s been a tough time for everyone, but Kelly is happy with the court’s decision on custody.”

“Divorce is tough and it gets tense for most couples who go through it. But Kelly’s primary focus is on doing the best she can to protect the children,” the source added. “In this case, she had to fight for them when Brandon and his lawyers made unreasonable requests.”

During the divorce proceedings, Clarkson has reiterated his intention to do so focus on her children. In February, the star admitted that being with her ex has been “tough” for her.

“You’re talking about co-parents, and I do right now,” she said in her talk show in a conversation with Khloé Kardashian. “It is hard. … I know with me and Brandon, it’s just a difficult thing because we’re in different places, and it’s like we both agree on the most important things, but it’s hard when you are not together all the time, because me personally. “

“As long as you make sure it’s about the kids and their best, we’re both on board,” she later added.
