Welcome to Great expectations, a recurring series in which we break down the most important information about an upcoming movie or show. In this issue, we look at what to expect from Captain Marvel’s sequel The Marvels.

In 2019, Captain Marvel lit in the box and had the best opening for a movie directed by a woman. Now a long-awaited sequel is finally on the horizon, ready to ride on the heels of its predecessor’s stunning success. But the film will also be a follow-up to the upcoming Disney + series Mrs. Marvel, also.

The Marvels, Directed by Our DaCosta (such man) and written by Megan McDonnell (WandaVision), will be the thirty-first film in MCU and the eighth feature in Phase Four of the franchise.

Here’s everything you need to know about the movie:

The Marvel’s release date (and where to watch)

The film was originally slated for a July 8, 2022 release, but will now open in theaters on November 11, 2022.

There is no word yet on when it will stream. However, the film will be available to stream on Disney + sometime after its theatrical release.

The Marvels Cast

The cast includes some familiar faces as well as a few newcomers to the franchise. Of course we have Brie Larsen recounts his role as Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel, a pilot gifted with superhuman strength and the ability to fly. Also from Captain Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson returns as former SHIELD Director Nick Fury.

Newcomers to the sequel include Mrs. Marvel star Iman Vellani, as Kamala Khan, aka Mrs. Marvel, a teenager with the ability to shape herself. Also, Teyonah Parris reciprocates her WandaVision role as SWORD agent Monica Rambeau, plus Zawe Ashton (Velvet Buzzsaw) and Park Seo-joon (Parasite).

The plot

If you liked Captain Marvel, the chances are also high that you will be a fan of the sequel. The former sees an intergalactic conflict involving two civilizations, Kree and Skrulls. Captain Marvel (Larsen) is the only one equipped to get in the middle and save the universe.

By the exit of WandaVision, teases a scene after credit what to expect from future films about Captain Marvel. A Skrull agent tells Monica Rambeau, daughter of Captain Marvel character Maria Rambeau that an old friend will see her in the room. We wonder who to could be.

Although there is not much news about the action yet The Marvels, it is given that it will relate to the relationship between Carol and Monica, as well as another fantastic intergalactic battle.

Unfortunately, there is no trailer yet. But we’ll add one as soon as it premieres!

Hard themes

Although there is not much information on what The Marvels is about yet, one thing’s for sure: it’s going to be a pretty serious movie, and some of the themes can really hit viewers. In an interview with Variety, Director Nia DaCosta revealed:

“I can say [the movie is] a very different animal. But I’m obsessed with how we all deal with our pain and trauma, and there’s some of that in the story. ”
