Angelina Jolie reveals the reason why she signed on to Eternals, MCU’s upcoming film, which is currently scheduled for a November 5 release.
Angelina Jolie reveals why she said yes to Marvel’s Eternities. The next MCU movie after Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternities shifts focus away from the more well-known Marvel superheroes and instead introduces a new, eponymous group of superpower individuals based on Jack Kirby’s obscure cartoon team. The film navigates the adventures of the titular, immortal alien race as it emerges from the shadows in the wake of the arrival of their evil counterparts, The Deviants, on Earth. Directed by Oscar winner Chloé Zhao, Eternities was originally supposed to hit theaters last year, but it was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Currently, Disney is committed to providing Eternities an exclusive theater course in the United States. However, the film’s release date of November 5 is mostly up in the air, where the studio is discussing about Eternities must be pushed back or if it would receive a hybrid release. Despite the uncertainty, the expectation for the film is still untouched. This can be partly credited Eternitiesstar-studded cast that includes high-profile celebrities such as Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek and Kumail Nanjiani. Perhaps the biggest name attached to the film is Angelina Jolie, who plays the elite warrior, Thena. At the moment, the full depth of Jolie’s character in the film is not clear, although the actor has expressed his enthusiasm for taking up the project.
In a conversation published in the fall 2021 edition of Disney’s D23 Magazine (retrieved via The Direct), Angelina Jolie opened up about why she chose to join Eternities. That Maleficent star said she was not worried about the length of her character. It was rather the opportunity to be a member of a decided “diverse family” which motivated her to take the film.
“This was the real reason I wanted to make the film. It had to be part of such a diverse family, and it really didn’t matter to me what the size of the role would be.”
Jolie is clearly excited to be a part of Eternities. Former Unbroken actress even admitted that the film is “certainly the biggest thing“she’s ever done that, which really matters, as she’s been a part of several big blockbusters over the last two decades. In fact, Jolie has not cut corners for her new job. Instead, she has Jolie has participated in intense training to prepare for her role as Thena, which involved maneuvering weapons such as swords, spears and staffs as well as recording the Ballet. This means the actress’ commitment to her character and gives fans some hints as to how big the scope of the new film would be.
Over the years, J0lie has mostly been in the spotlight all alone. This time, she shares the spotlight with an entire ensemble, yet she has no qualms about only getting a fraction of the fans’ attention. Surely, as the director of Eternals, Jolie will have a very important role to play in the film. But instead of her independent scenes, it is her chemistry with her co-stars that will be emphasized more. Clearly, Jolie is aware that, after all, being part of a diversified ensemble was the main motivation for her to make the film. So far, Jolie has impressed audiences with her solo acts, but now fans should get ready to be impressed with her coordinated performance in Eternities, as the actor has really dedicated himself to the film.
