Anya Taylor-Joy has had to stop “hysterically spinning on planes” now that she’s famous

Anya Taylor-Joy has had a rapid rise to fame thanks to the lead roles in Emma and The Queen’s Gambit. But she says that suddenly becoming one of Hollywood’s leading ladies has also come with some sacrifices, namely being able to cry her eyes out on a plane.

In an interview with With style, the actress confessed that becoming famous has meant she had to change her public behavior. “I used to hysterically sob about planes as my form of therapy to leave jobs,” she explained. “I wanted to put on a dramatic movie and say, ‘OK, tonight we’re crying!’ But I can no longer sob on planes without people worrying about my well-being. Someone will say, ‘Are you okay?’ I’m like, ‘No, that’s good. It’s good to cry. These are all good tears I swear! ‘”

Tears seem to be a big part of Taylor-Joy’s process of letting go of the many women she’s played on screen and grown to love. She says this after the recordings The witch, she became depressed and realized she was missing the role. And off The Queen’s Gambit, she adds, “I think I was saved with Beth because of the time I had with her. Yet I was in such deep sorrow that when I took off my wig for the last time, I just held it and sobbed. It’s a very bizarre thing, but you love [the characters]. Even though they are terrible people, you love them. ”

But despite the difficulties of having to leave these characters and her days of flying crying, Taylor-Joy has no complaints about her daily work. “I have good friends who tease me relentlessly if I even suggest being overworked or stressed,” she says. “They say, ‘Oh yeah, honey, it’s so sad you have to board a plane and do anything.’ “It’s all fun, but they’m right, I’m very lucky. I’m very privileged. It’s so much, but it’s still so bizarre.”
