Man accused of sexually assaulting woman as she slept

ENCINITAS, Calif. – A man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman while sleeping earlier this month at his home in North County was arrested this week, authorities said.

Maynor Ricardo Funes, 32, was arrested Wednesday and admitted to the Vista detention facility, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said. He is accused of an incident on September 17 in which a woman reported that she woke up to a man who sexually assaulted her on the Carol View Drive block in Encinitas in 2000 before chasing him out of the apartment.

The department said Funes was identified by detectives after an “extensive investigation.” He is now charged with burglary and sexual assault in the case and is on bail of $ 1 million.

Authorities are also asking in the area that experienced something similar to come forward and report it.
