Kumail Nanjiani teases with his “significant” role

Obi-Wan Kenobi Series, Kumail Nanjiani, Star Wars, Disney +, Ewan McGregor

Production of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series ended last month, but we still have a long way to go before we can see Ewan McGregor back in action as the iconic Jedi Master. Until then, we have to make do with little banter that has been pushed out of the series’ cast. The latest tease is coming to us from Eternities star Kumail Nanjiani.

The actor spoke to Rolling Stone to explain how he became involved in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and teased that his character has not exactly been seen before in the Star Wars series.

My agents called me and it was the whole group of them who never called you. And I was like, “OK, this is either great news or really terrible news.” And they say, “They want you to play a role in Obi-Wan, and it is apparently significant. “So I talked to [director Deborah Chow] and we had a good conversation. And the character sounded great – I was so excited about this character. We have not seen this exactly Star wars yet. This is like a new version of a type Star wars character we have seen before. And she tried sell me on it. And I was like, “I wanted to do this before the conversation!”

Kumail Nanjiani said that Obi-Wan The Kenobi series was his first project without quarantine. “It was just the happiest first job back possible,“Said Nanjiani.”I did not know how I could beat the experience I have had, which is a Marvel movie with Chloé Zhao, which is amazing, and perhaps the greatest cast ever assembled, and then has Obi-Wan as the next thing, with yet another truly amazing cast. Ewan McGregor! Really? I do not know where I’m going from there.Speaking of Ewan McGregor, Nanjiani was thrilled to act against Obi-Wan Kenobi. “There was this strange moment where I was talking to Ewan and they were shouting ‘Action’ and he had started talking to me and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m talking to Obi-Wan right now. This is not Ewan McGregor. It’s Obi-Wan Kenobi I’m talking to. ‘“Said Nanjiani.”My character is supposed to be a little intimidated by him and me was a little scared. You know it’s f ** king Obi-Wan, what do you want to do?

In addition to Ewan McGregor and Kumail Nanjiani, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series also stars Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Joel Edgerton (Boy deleted), Sung Kang (F9), Bonnie Piesse (The vow), Kumail Nanjiani (Eternities), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Rupert Friend (Fatherland), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Just Outta Compton), Simone Kessell (Bill) and Benny Safdie (Uncut pearls). The series will also feature the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader. The series launches at Disney + in 2022.
