Gabby Petito: Cause of death revealed amid manhunt for suspected killer

New details have emerged in the light of Gabby Petito’s tragic and brutal death.

During a news conference Tuesday, the Teton County Coroner’s Office revealed the cause of death of the 22-year-old vlogger.

According to officials, Petito died of suffocation.

Her death time is estimated to be three to four weeks before her body was found in mid-September.

On Sept. 21, Teton County Coroner Brent Blue confirmed that Petito died of homicide – but no further findings on her cause of death were initially disclosed.

The young woman had been reported missing by her family after she started on a road trip with her fiancé, Brian Laundrie.

The couple’s travels seemed to be going well until the end of August … when Petito’s mother, Nicole Schmidt, stopped hearing from Gabby while she was staying in Grand Teton National Park.

More than two weeks after their last conversation, Schmidt discovered that Laundrie had returned to her parents’ home in Florida without her daughter.

Laundrie has since disappeared and is considered a person of interest in Petito’s death.

The FBI is in the middle of a hunt for Laundrie.

On September 23, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Laundrie after a grand jury indictment said he “knowingly and knowingly deceived, used one or more unauthorized access devices” with reference to a debit card and bank account between August 30. and September 1st.

In the midst of this search, frightening details have come to light about Petito’s journey and her relationship with Laundrie in general.

In Moab, Utah, about two weeks before she was last heard from, senders received a 911 phone call about a domestic dispute involving Petito and Laundrie, in which the caller said a “gentleman beat the girl.”

Police eventually tracked down Petito and Laundrie and interviewed them both.

Via bodycam footage that has since been released, Gabby admits Brian slapped her in the face during their argument that day.

After Petito was buried in Holbrook, New York on September 26, her family attended an emotionally separate press conference.

“We just hope that through our tragedy we lose Gabby, that in the future something good can come out of it, that we can help other people who may be in a similar situation,” Petito’s stepfather, Jim Schmidt, told reporters , added at the time:

“What can we do to help people?”

Her father, Joseph Petito, added:

“We need positive things to get through this tragedy that happened. We can not leave her name in vain. We need positive things.”

As of Tuesday, Laundrie, meanwhile, has still not been located despite exhaustive searches at a wildlife sanctuary in Florida where he is believed to have taken hiking the day he disappeared.

Authorities have not yet named a real suspect in Petitos’ disappearance and murder, but it’s easy to understand why they want to talk to Laundrie.
