Smokey Robinson says ‘I looked back and knew I could have died’ after battling COVID-19

Smoking Robinson opens up about its battle with COVID-19.

In a new interview, the 81-year-old singer shares his experience with the deadly virus that took over the United States back in 2020 and sent him to the hospital.

Smokey Robinson says he captured COVID-19 back in December and spent 11 days in a Los Angeles hospital. He said,

“I am a COVID survivor. I got it serious and I was hospitalized for 11 days and four or five of them I can not even remember. It was really touch and go, and a terribly debilitating disorder. ”

Robinson explained that he was unsure how he infected the virus, but remembers that he felt ‘weird and funny’ just before Christmas. Within 48 hours of moving into their guesthouse to quarantine away from his wife, Smokey Robinson says it took a turn and he was rushed to the hospital.

He added,

“Fortunately, I never had to use the fan. I never lost my taste or smell, but it wiped me out. I lost all my energy and could not walk from the bed to the bathroom without being exhausted. ”

A thing ‘Crusin‘singer remembered the moment he thought he lost his voice. Afraid he would never sing again, he said:

“I could barely speak. Even when I got home, I was hoarse. I could not try to sing because I was scared. It was one of the scariest fights I have ever had. ”

After the frightening ordeal, Robinson claims that the severity of it all did not hit him until he returned home. He said,

“None of this really scared me before I got home. When I was there trying to get well while I was weak, I never thought about dying. I thought, ‘I’m going to get well. I looked back and knew I could be dead because it was so serious. Then it scared me. It sounds strange, I know, but the severity of my condition did not hit me until it was over. ”

The singer began to rebuild his strength by walking and eventually daily workouts. The Motown founder is also preparing to return to the scene. On his voice he shared,

“I had to work on my vocal cords and get myself back. I knew that was what I wanted to do with my life, and it was possible, so I did it, ”he said. “I love my job … That’s what keeps me going.”
