BASIC
FUNCTION:

The Assistant Dean of Career Services is responsible for the development,

planning, management and
administration of all career services, recruitment

and job placement activities for students and graduates of the School of Law.

The Director will serve the mission of the Office of Career Services to

educate and empower law students in job searches and in
their continuing

career development.

SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:

Supervises professional, para-professional,
administrative and student/wage

employees.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The Assistant Dean develops relationships with
students and graduates and

represents the School of Law to external constituencies including potential

employers, alumni, the
broader legal community, and the public.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Responsible for the overall administration and
organization of the Law

School’s Career Services Office; including managing all departmental

operations and records,
supervision and evaluation of staff, strategic and

budgetary planning, record keeping and management of resource library,

preparing reports, questionnaires and correspondence.

Responsible for developing a vision and strategic plan for the office.

Informs and advises students about career opportunities. Counsels students

and graduates on job-related matters.

Reviews
job applications documents including cover letters and resumes;

Stay apprised of legal career trends, the evolving job market, and
develops

new career services and professional development initiatives.

Develops informational programming and panel
presentations on career

options, career development, and market trends.

Plans and manages all on-campus recruitment programs
and “real-time”

videoconference interview. Coordinates the law school’s participation in off-campus job fairs and recruitment
programs sponsored by professional

organizations and bar associations.

Responsible for content of the Career Services website,
calendar of events,

and oversee Career Services communications to students.

Directs all technical and online services provided
to students and graduates.

Oversees usage of online recruiting software and website technology

including job and resume
databases.

Establishes and maintains contact with law firms, government agencies,

alumni, and other potential employers.
Organizes employer outreach and

program marketing. Develops publications for informational and marketing

purposes.

Represents the School of Law with professional organizations and may serve

as guest speaker on legal recruitment issues.

Develops student and office policies and procedures relating to career

development issues and trends.

Develops and
administers surveys to students and graduates and evaluates

results. Provide statistical analysis for internal and external
constituents.

Submits data annually to the American Bar Association and the National

Association for Law Placement that is
used as an integral part of independent

ranking of law schools.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

CORE
COMPETENCIES:

Extensive knowledge of the legal employment market and legal hiring

procedures and trends.

Extensive
knowledge of research techniques and methodologies, including

WESTLAW AND LEXIS/NEXIS.

Knowledge of statistics and statistical
computation.

Proficiency in the operation of computer with accompanying user-friendly

word processing, database, spreadsheet,
presentation and information

management software.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent management
skills required.

Ability to make public speaking presentations that are persuasive, convincing

and succinct.

Ability to
prepare and manage a budget and resources.

Ability to establish priorities and deadlines while delivering quality customer

service.

Ability to exercise leadership skills, delegate tasks, and promote, manage and

provide staff training and
development.

Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations

with students, faculty, staff,
University officials, and the general public.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A Juris Doctorate is required. Minimum four years
of experience in career

counseling and/or recruitment. Several years of prior leadership experience

in directing career
services/recruitment office is strongly preferred.
