Job Description:
The Department of Materials Science and
Engineering in The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering & Computer Science and the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the School of
Natural Sciences & Mathematics invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the areas of computational
thermodynamics and materials discovery using machine learning methods. The ideal candidate will develop research and courses related to data
analytics, machine learning, rapid materials synthesis, etc., to accelerate the discovery, design, synthesis, and evaluation of novel

The Materials Science and Engineering Department at UT Dallas has 14 faculty members, approximately 80 graduate students,
and offers MS and PhD degrees in Materials Science and Engineering. Areas of research expertise include advanced micro- and nanoelectronics,
catalysis, sensing, biomedical devices, flexible electronics, and energy storage and conversion. The Department of Chemistry and
Biochemistry has 23 faculty members, 8 professors of instruction, and 135 graduate students, and it offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in
Chemistry and a BS degree in Biochemistry.

Particular emphasis will be placed upon candidates who have research expertise in
computational materials thermodynamics to predicting the synthesizability of materials and heterostructures using automatically generated
first-principles data. Additional interests include applying machine learning and large computational data sets for molecular and materials
design and discovery. Qualified candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and will develop and teach
interdisciplinary courses involving materials science/chemistry and computer science to introduce machine learning and data science concepts
to materials scientists and chemists as well as to introduce materials science and chemistry concepts to computer scientists.
