Jodorowsky’s dune book is very rare and soon up for auction

Alejandro Jodorowsky keeps a copy of his Dune movie book.

Anyone who have seen the documentary Jodorowsky’s clit probably did the same Google search immediately after: “Jodorowsky’s Dune Order. “It’s because in the film, director Alejandro Jodorowsky does not just talk about for a long time how he planned to adapt Frank Herberts Dune to the big screen, but the incredible book he created then film studies could see all the preparations work he had done.

Filled with the script, storyboards, concept art, and more, the book is basically as close as anyone can get to see Jodorowsky’s version of Dune. But of course, the director and his team only created a handful copies, and that was decades ago. This is not a book you can just get on Amazon. It does not exist in any achievable way.

But now an achievable way has emerged if you have a whole lot of money. One of the super rare books made for Jodorowsky’s Dune is up for auction via Christie’s later this month. The auction house claims that it is probably one of 10 or maybe 20 specimens in the world—-onend estimate it will bring in between 25,000 and 35,000 Euros (basically between $30,000 and 40,000).

And who knows, it could be more than that. With Denis Villeneuve’s version of Dune currently in cinemas, and one part two comes in 2023, Dune is again in the eyes of the public. That means any fan who wants to get into the various customizations of Herbert’s world will no doubt learn about all that is amazing worldbuilding Jodorowsky made for his never-made film. The 2014 documentary directed by Frank Pavich gets into some of the artwork of people like Moebius, Chris Foss, HR Giger, and many others – fut actually have it in your hands. To read the manuscript. See storyboards. That would be magnificent.

For more on the book, and if you actually want to bid on it, go over to that Christie’s website.
