Radio programs that are also shown on television have sometimes the TV simulcast anticipated or moved in favor of live sporting events, and the hosts often get angry about that. A prominent example is Mike Francesa’s war with FS1 over the UEFA Champions League and NASCAR training improvements (both of which received significantly higher ratings than his show). The latest incident where this happened came on Jim Rome’s show on Thursday, where the CBSSN simulcast of the last two hours of that show was predicted for the finals of the International Swimming League.
Note: This post has been updated. The clip below makes it look like Rome is complaining about himself, but the actual language of complaint at the beginning of the clip was apparently that he was quoting a tweet from an offended listener. Here is the tweet:
@CBSSportsNet it was a great interview with Mr Green on @jimrome show and I idiots are going to anticipate @jimrome show for swimming ??? STUPID!
– Eric Sheck (@ bfavre_fan1) November 11, 2021
Here’s how Rome covered this, first by reading that tweet and then saying he does not control CBSSN’s decisions.

“And you IDIOTS are going to anticipate the show for SWIMMING ?! STUPID! [splash sound effect]”
“Again, I can only control what I can control, and I can only program what I can program, and I can only control this show, and even then I can not control this show. Because I can not control you clones. So what I really can not control is what CBS Sports Network is doing these hours. “
“And I have no problem with that. I mean, I do not. They have other qualities they have besides Jim Rome radio / tv show. Including swimming. So yes, on the TV side, we’re leaving in hours two and three, and you have to swim instead of me. Maybe it’s an upgrade in your mind. Maybe it’s an upgrade, period. All I know is that we got Draymond under the gun, so that’s good. ”
As mentioned earlier, “I do not have a problem with that” and “They have other characteristics” are significantly more conciliatory than “You idiots!”, And the news that Rome actually quoted another for the first inflammatory part. makes his answer much more sensible. We apologize for passing this clip on and misinterpreting the context that was not shown in the clip.
