Our first look at Exchange has been unveiled in the form of some new concept art released by 20th Century on Friday. It teases the net shortly after the news came Predator 5 has officially been given the title as Exchange with plans to be released on Hulu in 2022. The artwork gives us a look at the film’s main character, Amber Midthunder’s Naru, with a predator lurking in the fog behind it. Another image shows the film Exchange title with the classic Predator font.
Exchange is a prequel to the franchise that goes back to the beginning to reveal the visit to Earth of a certain extraterrestrial threat. Set in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, follows the prequel Naru, a “skilled warrior who fiercely protects his tribe from a highly developed alien predator.” Putting Predator in a whole new setting is meant to help make the franchise fresh again, and producer John Davis has even teased that this new film is on par with the beloved original.
“It will be, I think, the second best – or the first … or it may be equal to the first. No?” David told Collider. “I feel like the first one was a wonderful, interesting movie, and I know what worked on it. I feel like we never got back there again. We ended up in different places. I think this is a worthy addition to the first. one. It will be just as good. “
Davis also said: “It goes back to what made the original Predator film work. It is the ingenuity of a man who will not give up, who is able to observe and interpret, to be basically able to strike a stronger, stronger, well-armed force. “
Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) directs Exchange using a manuscript by Patrick Aison (Kingdom). For a while, the project was recorded under the working title Skulls, in part because Trachtenberg tried to hide that this was a new one Predator movie. When that cat was out of the bag, Trachtenberg was still holding back revealing details, and it was not clear if this would be a follow-up to Shane Blacks The predator. We now know that this prequel instead takes us centuries into the past.
It is unclear if the film will get an R rating, but Davis has suggested that the studio could get it cut down just enough to get a PG-13 rating. Maybe now that it’s aimed at a streaming home on Hulu, there will not be as much focus on censoring the content for a softer assessment. In any case, it will be interesting to see how this franchise develops in a completely different time period, even if it means that there is no chance that the original star Arnold Schwarzenegger will have a surprising role as a Dutchman.
Exchange will be released on Hulu in the summer of 2022. An exact release date has not yet been announced. The news regarding Exchange comes out along with lots of other great projects in the works associated with Disney for Disney + Day.
