Actor and comedian Aisling Bea, who recently starred in Netflix’s Living With Yourself, will star in Doctor Who’s New Year’s Day Special.
Netflix’s Living with yourself star Aisling Bea is set to star in the upcoming Doctor Who New Year’s special. Thirteenth Doctor actress Jodie Whittaker’s time in TARDIS ends as she prepares to hand over the reins after the ongoing season 13 and three special episodes airing in 2022. The first of these will be a New Year’s special, as has been expected since 2019, when showrunner Chris Chibnall chose to replace the series’ traditional Christmas episode with a New Year’s episode.
TV Mag (via @ John_El98) reports that actor and comedian Bea is set to appear in Doctor Who‘s upcoming New Year’s Day 2022 special. The report claims she will be joined by Pauline McLynn, an experienced British character actress most recently seen in Edgar Wrights Last night in Soho. The publication also provides a very brief synopsis of the story, which states, “An ordinary guest sees something extremely irregular going on at the ELF warehouse.”
It’s a great honor too Doctor Who to feature two talented characters in the British comedy scene, and since both actors are Irish, fans have a clue about the story’s potential surroundings. Although this report does not provide many plot details, both previous New Year’s Day offerings shared an ongoing story with the Doctor’s oldest enemies, the Daleks, who tried to conquer Earth. It is therefore unlikely that both of these prestigious guest stars could be given prominent roles as part of the conclusion of an epic trilogy of New Year’s Dalek specialties.
