For most people Brian Laundrie search is over. The skeletal remains found over three weeks ago were identified using dental records – proving the only person of interest in the murder of Gabby Petito was dead.
Well, we obviously all want more answers – but for some internet users, it seems like no answer is ever enough, not even an official ID. And the fact that sources at the time of the discovery overturned CBS News that only “a small part” of a corpse had been found, yes, it has led to some wild speculation online. Nonsen’s conspiracy theory stuff, like secret twins. Seriously, do not fall into that rabbit hole.

The lack of closure – and a whole body – means that the shadow of the case falls over other new cases. Most recently the body parts found over the weekend in McKay Bay, near the South 22nd Street Causeway in Tampa, Florida.
The first was a bone that a fisherman found Thursday. He told FOX13:
“I was laying the lines out and getting ready to fish, and all of a sudden I see this lump, what looked like a catfish, start to float by, and as it gets closer to me, I start to realize that it looks like more a human bone. “
Friday it got wilder. Police issued a statement saying that after the deadly capture, other body parts had been found. They did not specify what kind of parts, how many, or whether they could determine if they were all from the same person.
Some theorists immediately linked it to Laundrie online because McKay Bay was only about an hour north, from where the remains of the famous refugee were found. We are not sure how much sense it makes. Of course is an hour relatively close, but it’s not like the wind carried his leg 80 miles down the road. So unless they think someone has parted with him and spread him all over the Gulf of Mexico, we really can not see where they are coming from.
Moreover, there is specific evidence that it is not him. The Tampa Police Department released a photo of a tattoo on the leg that could be used to identify the body:
Three hearts and the names Sean, Greg and Zach. Our guess would be that these are the children of the deceased. It’s certainly not a tattoo we’ve ever seen in the pictures and footage of Brian Laundrie, nor do the names connect his case.
We hope that would be enough to make it clear, but given that there are reportedly still civilians out there in the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park area who spend hours a day looking for more of Brian or his personal belongings , we doubt it.
If you are interested in helping the police find a real solution to the crime, there is more info. On Monday, TPD released another lead – a silver 2008 Hyundai Elantra with Pennsylvania license plate number HDE6564. They only say the car may be related to the case, which they call an inquest.
Police are asking anyone who recognizes the tattoo or car or knows anything about the limbs found to call 813-231-6130 or contact Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-TIPS.
