Monette has been married 11 times and she would do it again for the right man.

On TLC’s new reality show “Addicted to Marriage,” which premiered Tuesday, Monette and three other women show viewers how their serial marriages and divorces affect their current relationship.

Monette told Insider she was hesitant to attend the TV show in the beginning when casting directors reached out. But she changed her mind and did not want to miss the opportunity to give other divorced visibility.

“Different people I’ve come in contact with who have been married several times, they’ve all felt really terrible about themselves. I was just thinking, ‘You know, I do not know anyone who’s been married so many times as me, ‘”Monette told Insider.

She said reflecting on her marriages and filming the show helped her become a more patient person who is in touch with her emotions.

Monette’s Mormon upbringing affected her view of marriage, she said

Monette said she grew up as a Mormon in Utah, so she never questioned the idea of marriage. In fact, Monette said she only had sex before marriage in her last two marriages because of her religious background. Her first marriage, which lasted 10 years, happened right after she finished high school.

“Not once did I go into a marriage and think it would end in divorce. Every single time I thought, ‘Let this be the one,'” Monette said in the episode.

But since her last marriage and divorce, Monette said she realized she was idealizing her exes, which may have helped the relationship end.

Now Monette is working on patience and checking in with herself

Monette told Insider that she has not learned much about men from her 11 marriages, but she has learned a lot about herself.

She said she has noticed that she has more patience than ever before and she knows she needs to date men who can handle their jealousy.

“I’m very social and very outgoing, so I can not be with a very controlling person or someone who easily gets jealous. It’s a bit of a hard balance for me with the men I’ve been with,” Monette told Insider, adding that her current boyfriend John leaves her as sociable as she wants.

Monette also said the filming of the show taught her to notice and reflect more on her own feelings instead of focusing solely on her partner.

“After we made a scene, they would do an interview and ask how I was doing with a particular situation,” like a quarrel or a romantic dinner, Monette said.

“It was a really amazing thing for me because I started looking at my relationship and my life. It was a bit like therapy, you know?”
