The concept and 3D art of Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 5

Forza Horizon 5 is fun as heck, but I think the main reason why so many more people like it than the last post in the series is how it looks. Not in relation to the number of polygons on the screen, but simply atmosphere of the.

Mexico is a beautiful country, but the parts of it that appear in this game, and the way they appear, really make it feel like a fantasy vacation to drive fast cars through the countryside. Sometimes, when combined with the game’s writing and overall tone, this can get one little much – swings uncomfortably close Far Cry levels of tropical voyeurism – but all in all, it’s just a wonderful thing to sit back and watch, whether you’re driving 200km / h or sitting completely still on the tarmac.

We can thank Playground Games and the artists who worked on the game for it, so it will be really nice tonight to watch a lot of art that went into the game’s creation.

Below you can see a selection of works from some of the artists responsible for FH5s see. Not everyone has worked on everything, but it’s enough to give us all a good feel for the kind of things that formed the building blocks of the game world.

You will find links to each artist’s portfolio in their names below, and even more pieces over at ArtStations FH5 Art Blast.

The implicit promise of Forza Horizon is in the name. You see something on the horizon you can drive to it. Skyrim with cars. Far Cry with more cars and no weapons.
