Maria Fowler shares ‘unfiltered’ snaps from her cesarean section

Maria Fowler posted ‘unfiltered’ snaps taken during her caesarean section when she urged women to share ‘true and imperfect birth stories’ on Thursday.

The former TOWIE star of 35, who is the proud mother of two daughters Evie of five and Nellie of 13 months, discussed her birth journey with her youngest child in the post.

She told fans that we are often bombarded with images of ‘perfect and filtered’ snaps when mothers have just been through labor pains, leaving a feeling that they have ‘failed’.

She posed for two snaps on Instagram, the first of Nellie given to her after her surgery, and the second of them in hospital beds together afterwards.

She wrote: ‘Doctors, monitor, incision, not what I expected. The first birth I missed. I slept in full anesthesia.

“This time I was hoping to push and hear her cry, get a natural birth that nature intended. The time is coming. 9:00, pre-ordered, New nightgown, No breakfast.

‘Blood, cuts, quiet discussion. It’s not a natural birth, but this time I want to see it, see her lifted. Emotions and feelings flow through me, through him. He holds my hand. Worried, he also missed the first birth.

‘Spinal in, cut slowly. 5 layers and it’s time. Screen lowered, baby lifted. Vernix & blood, as a natural birth. I see her little body, I hear her cry, I cry. ‘

She continued: ‘My secondborn but first birth experience. Nellie Maria. 7lb 2oz I hear them say. Dad cuts the cord, I get the first roof. It’s not a perfect textbook, but it’s enough. She’s here, she’s safe.

‘For many mothers, childbirth is the start of a new journey. We may need to heal physically, even mentally. Sometimes our babies also need time to heal, sometimes prematurely they need more time to grow. Early babies, angel babies, so many experiences.

‘Pliers, C-sections, general anesthesia, you are not alone. I joined @frida_uk to share my true birth story and encourage you to do the same. Let’s break taboos and encourage conversation.

She acknowledged by saying: ‘We are often painted a picture of other people’s birth experiences, perfect and filtered, and it can make us feel like we have failed. You have not failed. You do not have to expect perfection, your body is incredible and no matter how you bring your baby into the world, you are amazing. ‘

It comes after Maria earlier this year spoke out about how Instagram can cheat to promote how women’s bodies can ‘jump back’ shortly after giving birth.

The star took to social media to show how two photos taken at ‘second intervals’ showed her figure after giving birth differently.

In one picture, Maria looked toned but said she was ‘breathing in within an inch of her life’, while the other showed her stomach in a relaxed state.

Maria wrote: ‘Smoke and mirrors,’ How did I lose my pregnancy weight in 2 weeks’ … I did not. Both pictures are taken at second intervals.

‘There were no supplements. No crazy diets, skinny jabs, ketones, no quick fixes. All that was involved was a better pose.

‘There’s nothing wrong with any of the pictures, and nothing wrong with wanting to look best in pictures.

‘I could post a ton of pictures as the first one to show you how’ incredible ‘I look 3 months after the birth and but I’m aware I have a responsibility to be genuine with you, I do not want have that people should see my side and feel a failure that you are not enough. ‘

Maria told her followers that the image on the left ‘is not representative of how I look’ because she stood on her toes and breathed in ‘within an inch of my life’.

The reality star said she does not want to “push myself to look like the first picture” but is conscious of eating in moderation and exercising.

She continued: ‘I only used to post pictures where I looked perfect, and to be honest, it’s pretty stressful, you’re just creating so much pressure on yourself.

‘Yesterday I looked back at a picture 4 years ago of me when I just had Evie and I was wondering how I looked so good back then and why I do not look so good now after having Nellie, then I realized that I was wearing the high-waisted leggings, I had the perfect pose and lighting – in real life I did not look like that at all.

‘If I myself (by knowing all the tricks of the trade) can feel bad about looking at my old perfect pictures after having Evie, I can imagine that many of you on Instagram feel the same when looking at others ‘influencer’ pictures. ‘

Maria said she would remind her followers that the picture-perfect postings they see on Instagram are all the way down to ‘the right pose, the right angle and the right lighting’.

She concluded: “This is not about beating images of perfection, it’s just to remind you how often it’s achieved and that much of what you see online is smoke and mirrors.”

Last October, Maria revealed that she had given birth to her second child. She announced the news on social media and wrote: ‘Nellie Maria Batey. September 29, 2020 at 9.31 7 lb 2 oz. ‘

‘The delivery was incredible. We are both at home and feeling good. Our hearts are so full, she’s just perfect. Thank you to everyone at Derby Royal hospital for everything, ward 314, you were all fantastic. ‘

Maria married Kelvin Batey on July 27, 2019, three years after receiving her daughter Evie.

Maria was diagnosed with SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction), a condition that causes pain in the pelvic region and is very common during pregnancy, and she needed crutches before the birth of her first child.
