Marketing and Communications – Marketing Copy Specialist


Bradley University seeks applications for a communications professional with strong written, oral and interpersonal skills who takes a proactive approach to identify communication needs. This position is responsible for promoting Bradley University through written editorial and engaging marketing content. Primary duties include generating and executing story ideas from the university’s constituents with a major focus on students, faculty and alumni; writing compelling copy for Bradley’s website; proofing materials; and assisting team members on special projects. This full time, exempt position reports to the Executive Director of Content Strategy.


  • Write marketing copy for print and digital materials, e.g. emails to attract prospective students, departmental brochures, text for Bradley’s website. Update existing assets.
  • Help recruit prospective student through marketing language on all college and department web pages, including descriptions of all academic programs. Work with faculty to ensure information accuracy
  • Write and edit stories for Bradley magazine and Here’s the Latest web updates: conduct research and interviews; prepare drafts for editorial approval; and finalize copy. Work with Creative Services to secure any necessary art.
  • Produce content for other formats, e.g., video scripts, speeches, programs and advertisements.
  • Draft and adapt messages for a variety of audiences.
  • Manage a full workload; prioritize tasks and navigate shifting priorities.
  • Build relationships with campus constituents to generate content ideas for print and the web.
  • Ensure accuracy and meet all expected deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned, including (but not limited to) editing content.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, or closely related discipline and at least three years of professional experience.
  • Outstanding editorial skills, including in content creation, fact checking, proofreading, and copyediting as evidenced by a portfolio of professional writing that is clear, accurate and inspiring.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Organization and attention to detail when creating and reviewing content are critical components.
  • A commitment to Bradley University’s mission and to its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, especially in the context of written communications and in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • A sense of initiative and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, producing polished content under tight deadlines.
  • Translate complex academic information into clear, jargon-free language.
  • Required knowledge of and strict adherence to high journalistic standards, including Associated Press style.
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn; willingness to be mentored by editors with more experience/seniority.
  • Handle interpersonal relationships maturely, thoughtfully and empathetically.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exceptional web writing skills including writing for search engine optimization and social media.
  • Knowledge of higher education marketing and communications practices.

Fall 2021 Testing Protocols

ALL students, faculty, and staff who are not fully vaccinated are required to be a part of the COVID-19 testing protocols during the fall 2021 semester.

Those faculty and staff who are working entirely remotely and who will not be on campus during the fall 2021 semester will not be subjected to the testing protocol. However, please note, individual programs may require you to undergo testing or vaccination to meet their requirements.

Spring 2022 Semester

ALL students, faculty, and staff MUST have received their second dose of a two dose COVID-19 vaccine series or a single dose COVID-19 vaccine by Nov. 1, 2021. 

The ONLY exceptions to this will be: 

Those who receive a medical or religious exemption for vaccination.

Those faculty and staff who are working entirely remotely and who will not be on campus. However, please note, individual programs may require you to be vaccinated to meet their requirements.
