Long before Eternal hit theaters, Marvel Studios executives said it was one of the most expensive risks the studio had taken to date. With Chloe Zhao at the helm, the production chose to abandon the studio’s traditional use of sound scenes and green screens to record the majority of the film on location in various locations around the world. Appropriate in line with practical scenery is the superhero who fits the film’s title group of characters.
While the vast majority of the characters wore actual suits, there were two that appeared throughout the film who were supposed to have their suits computer generated because the designers changed after the filming ended. Talks to Weta Digital’s Matt Aitken and tells us that both Thena (Angelina Jolie) and Eros (Harry Styles) wore CGI suits.
“Then when she’s in her superhero costume, it’s always completely CG,” says Aitken. “She’s a CG from the neck down because the design of the suit changed in the post-production. To get her body performance so that it had the iconic aspect to it, they have cast Angelina Jolie for a reason. And part of that is that she has a way of moving that is almost like a dancer. “
He adds: “Make sure we honored it with the digital component of the show, but that’s especially what I’m getting around to here, capturing her face, getting that authenticity so we can make a mid-shot like digi -double , and it’s not going to be jarring to anyone. It’s not going to jump them out of it. They’re just going to think, ‘Oh, this is another Then battle.’ It’s such a great support for the filmmakers to enable them to be creative and keep refining the story they want to tell. It’s still really hard so I think just getting better at those things so it “not that big of a challenge every time. time. I think we’ve had some success doing it, but yes, I think we’ll just keep refining and refining that whole process.”
Aitken then confirmed that Eros’ suit was changed in the middle of the credits scene because Starfox’s iconic look was chosen when the main photo stopped shooting.
“Of course we had digi-doubles of them all, but the only other thing that changed completely was you mentioned the post-credits or mid-credits scene with Starfox, or Eros slash Starfox and Pip the Troll,” Aitken concludes. “Eros’ costume was another redesign.”
