Position overview
Position title: Lecturer
Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience and the particular courses the lecturer is appointed to teach. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.

Percent time: Variable, based on the course load assigned.

Anticipated start: Appointments are contingent on the hiring units instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall 2021 through fall quarter 2022. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.

Position duration: Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

Position Description

The Latin American & Latino Studies Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of part-time lecturers who may be appointed to teach various undergraduate courses in our curriculum such as: Introduction to LALS (LALS 1); Introduction to Human Rights & Social Justice (LALS 5); Race & Ethnicity (LALS 143); Truth, Justice and Statistics (LALS 15); Migration, Gender, and Health (LALS 175); and Social Movements in Latin America (LALS 30); as well as elective courses that focus on social justice, statistical methodology, ethnic studies, and Latin American and Latino Studies (see the UCSC Course Catalog for a complete list of our courses).

LALS is an interdisciplinary field and department, with a hemispheric focus that intentionally bridges Ethnic Studies and Latin American studies. Applicants with a Ph.D. in related disciplines or fields are encouraged to apply.

LALS is multilingual and students are encouraged to develop advanced language skills. The department offers elective courses in Spanish and Portuguese and strongly encourages applicants to apply who are experienced with teaching in Spanish or Portuguese at the college or university level.

The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Masters degree or higher degree (or an equivalent foreign degree) in Latin American & Latino Studies or a field relevant to the advertised position in the social sciences or humanities; and a minimum of one-year teaching experience at the college or university level.
