The mission of the
Research & Equity Scholarship (RES) Institute (https://res-iste.sdsu.edu/;
Director/PI: Felisha Herrera Villarreal, Ph.D.) at San Diego State University is to promote scientific and applied research, training, and
the exchange of information that contribute to the knowledge and understanding of P-20 educational trajectories and the contexts that engage
and support students from diverse backgrounds. The RES Institute unites scholars who research important topics pertaining to equity in
education to collaborate on funded research projects and the production of timely research reports and publications with critical
implications for education policy and practice.

Funded by the National Science Foundation, the postdoctoral research scholar position
involves contributing to large scale, mixed-methods research projects examining STEM higher education for Latinx and other racially
minoritized and historically underrepresented students at two- and four-year Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs). The person hired into
this position will be based at the Research & Equity Scholarship Institute (https://res-iste.sdsu.edu/; Research Center Director/PI: Felisha Herrera Villarreal, Ph.D.) at San Diego State
University. The RES Institute is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with interests in STEM education, minority
serving institutions, community college pathways, and strong educational research skills (quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed-methods)
and expertise.

We invite applicants who currently hold a doctoral degree in education, social sciences, or closely related field.
Applicants who have currently advanced to candidacy (ABD) in their doctoral program and will complete all degree requirements prior to the
start date will also be considered. The position is to start no later than June 1, 2022. Earlier start date (as soon as possible) is
preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Management of ongoing funded projects; coordinate the day-to-day operations of research studies
  • Development of research
    protocols; support and coordinate data collection activities; and data management
  • Contributing to data analysis, manuscript
    writing, and dissemination and presentation of findings
  • Contributing to writing and submission of competitive proposals for
    funding
  • Mentor/supervise undergraduate and graduate student research assistants who contribute to all phases of the research
    process
  • Providing feedback on employee progress and performance, training, coaching and
    counseling

Qualifications:

Minimum Education

  • A doctoral degree in
    Education, Social Sciences, or closely related field

    • Applicants who have currently advanced to candidacy (ABD) in their doctoral
      program and will complete all degree requirements prior to the start date will be considered.

Preferred
Experience, Skills, knowledge, & Abilities

  • Advanced skills in qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed methods research in
    education, social sciences, or closely related field
  • Position to start no later than June 1, 2022. Earlier start date (as soon as
    possible) is preferred
  • Background and doctoral level training in higher education research, theory, and/or practice (e.g.,
    experience as higher education professionals)
  • Experience and interests in research on STEM in higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing and contributing to
    collaborative education focused research projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while
    maintaining exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong writing skills and demonstrated record of scholarship, including academic
    publications.
