Fire breaks out in Santee during dangerous fire weather

SAN DIEGO – Firefighters are working to put out a fire near Santee on Thursday as strong winds and red flags warn areas of the county.

The fire was reported to be burning in an area off 9500 North Magnolia Avenue, not far from the Walker Preserve Trail. Heartland Fire & Rescue responded and a public safety warning received by people in the area said evacuation warnings were in effect near Hillcreek and Ramsgate.

Few details about the fire were immediately available. It erupted when 5,300 SDG & E customers were without power on Thanksgiving Day due to dangerous fire weather.

A high wind warning was set to expire at noon, while a red flag warning will be in place until 6 p.m. 6pm Friday for San Diego County Mountains and Inner Valleys.
