Web Site Designer/Developer Sr


This position serves as a senior web site designer/developer for the institutional web site. This position is responsible for design, development and troubleshooting the university web site, remediating accessibility issues, and various online systems relating to the university’s online marketing efforts. This position is also responsible for contributing to the development of an accessible, SEO (search engine optimized) design/development strategy, ensuring quality control and supporting strategic marketing initiatives.


  • Create, maintain and administer web pages and information architecture within a CMS (content management system) environment.
  • Design and develop the institutional web site using HTML, JavaScript, cascading style sheets (CSS) and other web development technologies within the CMS.
  • Oversee institutional web pages and CMS templates to ensure accessibility and marketing effectiveness through SEO (search engine optimization) resulting in high search rankings and positive user experience.
  • Create, modify and implement style sheets (CSS) and content management system (CMS) templates for university use.  
  • Lead the development of web applications to support strategic marketing initiatives.
  • Develop effective and accessible web-based solutions using a CMS, advanced search indexing software and online forms and workflows for institutional web sites and external online channels.  
  • Ensure the best possible performance, quality, responsiveness and ADA compliance of institutional websites.
  • Ensure all web site designs adhere to accessibility guidelines and are optimized for strong SEO performance.
  • Provide support to campus site authors and content contributors in a highly decentralized model.
  • Develop and publish institutional pages. Assist with content, messaging and publishing emergency notifications and informational pages on the web site.   
  • Evaluate web site accessibility issues and SEO performance and collaborate with other units for resolution.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of effective marketing pages web pages that support recruitment, enrollment and retention.
  • Participate in institutional web site governance, SEO, accessibility discussions, and strategy planning.
  • Perform the duties of this position as a value-driven professional while supporting a team environment and the institution’s bottom line.

This position is eligible for remote work and/or a flexible work schedule.


Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or similar field or an equivalent combination of work and experience.

Three years of comparable experience in website development

Required certifications, registrations, licensures or other requirements:  None

  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, and personal interaction abilities.  
  • Proficiency in front-end web development including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript.
  • Drive to learn new programming frameworks, languages and software.
  • Ability to work with site authors, developers, designers and project managers.
  • Willingness to learn from other developers and constantly change the way you develop.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a team and collaborate and foster a positive team environment.


  • Expertise working with .NET, ASPX
  • Experience with web design and development using a CMS (content management system)
  • Experience with XSLT, Velocity and other templating languages
  • Experience with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards for Accessible Design
  • Knowledge and experience with the administration of and development within Content Management Systems
  • Experience writing and designing custom Content Management System templates and modules
  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks and libraries such as jQuery
  • Understanding of APIs, JSON/XML data and other structured data formats
  • Prior university experience with front-end development
  • Experience with marketing through websites and other online channels
