Grammys insists Taylor & Kanye were not added to the AOTY list because of their “appeal”

Harvey Mason Jr. said the addition of Taylor Swift and Kanye West was solely a matter of the votes they received and that they were not selected for their appeal on the Grammys’ TV show.

Recently, New York Times revealed that additional songs and albums were nominated for Grammy at the last minute. But Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, has since said so the addition of Swift and West – superstars in their own right whose rivalry is an eternal media spectacle – was solely a matter of the votes they received and that they were not selected for their appeal on Grammys’ TV show.

“One thousand percent no,” Mason said. “It was not a consideration.”

Representatives of each of the added artists declined to comment.
