Strictly fans beat Tess Daly out for ‘condescending’ comment to Rhys Stephenson as he breaks down in tears

STRICTLY Come Dancing host Tess Daly faced a setback last night after a “condescending” comment to Rhys Stephenson.

Tess, 52, comforted CBeebies host, 26, as he broke down in tears after rolling to You Light Up My Life by Whitney Houston in Saturday’s show.

Ryhs competes in the competition with his professional partner Nancy Xu, 30.

But Saturday night, the pressure was a little too much for Rhys as he broke down and admitted he had had a tough week seeing him in the dance-off.

BBC host Tess tried to comfort him with some kind words, but the viewers at home were less than impressed.

“Oh, come on darling. Oh Rhys, come on darling,” she said to him, “are you crying, honey?

“Are you guessing a little? I know you were so nervous. Oh, I know you were really nervous and you really wanted to do well.”

Rhys wiped his tears and replied, “I’m so sorry, it’s so embarrassing.”

Tess replied, “You do not want to be in that dance again, do you? Not at all.”

But viewers at home felt that Tess had rubbed salt in the wound and quickly streamed to Twitter to feel it “uncomfortable” and “cdownward. “

“Oh come on, Tess, Rhys is not 5! He danced beautifully and all we can hear in the end is you #Strictly,” one person wrote.

“It was uncomfortable to witness. Why did Tess feel a need to talk to Rhys as if he were 6 years old? He’s a grown man, not her infant #stricta,” said another.

Another fan did not hold back and labeled her comments “condescending”, adding: “Give the job to Claudia, she can carry the show alone.”

“Caught sincerely for myself by Tess and said ‘you do not want to join the dance again, do you?’ So condescending to Rhys, “wrote one viewer.

And another fan added, “Tess speaks to Rhys as if he had just fallen off the climbing frame and crushed his knee.”

Rhys received mixed reviews from the judges for his routine, with Cynthia tells him, “I love the connection you two have on the dance floor, you move with such grace, I just want you to breathe more.”

Shirley Ballas also labeled the routine as “beautiful”.

Craig Revel Horwood, however, had some stronger words when he added, “I felt like you were following along and not leading this dance.

“To me, it was completely lacking drive, there was no swing, there was no sway, that was what made it look square and blocked out.”
