Spidey senses ?! zendaya always comes up with a statement when she hits the red carpet, but her latest look is perhaps just her best yet. The 25-year-old actress arrived at the Ballon d’Or at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on Monday 29 November, wearing what is possibly the coolest Roberto Cavalli dress, yes, ever.
Although it was all sleek and sophisticated at the front, the dress was nothing short of a party at the back. It had a massive cut right from just above her butt to her shoulder blades. However, that’s not all – the star of the show was a three-dimensional gold-plated backbone that looked straight out of a superhero movie.
It did not take long before fans began to draw connections and point to potential inspirations for the dress, but a reference reigned supreme.
After a fan account named @dayacrue shared a side-by-side photo Malcolm and Marie star and Dr. Octopus, who first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, gave Zendaya his stamp of approval.
“We love a reference,” the actress, who was styled by Lov Roach, subtitle an Instagram Stories of the post. She also shared a close look at the insanely intricate spine detail.
Considering that Dr. Octopus returns Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will be released in a few weeks, it’s no surprise that fans went wild and took to Twitter to share their obsession.
“Zendaya is channeling Dr. Octopus from Spider-Man,” one person remarked, while another added, “Zendaya is Dr. Octopus confirmed !!”
Some even pointed out that the whole outfit choice could also be a connection to the boyfriend Tom Hollandwho plays Spider-Man in the movie. The couple first met on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming.
“This is how @Zendaya’s dress reminds me of Dr. Octopus, and suddenly I see @ TomHolland1996. Wonderful couple, ”laughed one user.
This is far from the first time Zendaya has made a film reference with his fashion. Earlier this year, star Lola Bunny channeled at the premiere of Space Jame: A New Legacy.
For the event, she rocked a patchwork short set by Moschino that featured spots of blue, yellow, orange and red, which definitely took inspiration from Lola Bunny’s recreated costume.
Roach even confirmed the reference and shared a clip of the colorful look with the caption: “Tell me you’re Lola Bunny without telling me you’re Lola Bunny ….”
