Ranveer Singh star faces a negligible decline but still finds no way out of the hole it is in

Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and director Kabir Khan’s 83 film needed miraculous teams from Monday onwards before it even began to nurture any thoughts of balancing at the box office, failing to make money as its budget, including production costs + P&A (print) and advertising) are reportedly quite huge. That’s not how it should be, though. The 83 film may have received ubiquitous brilliant reviews and has enjoyed excellent word of mouth ever since it hit theaters, but unfortunately that does not seem to have translated into a positive response at the box office. Surprisingly, cinema halls closing in Delhi have not aggravated 83’s situation at the box office, but its collections are already so low for any kind of comeback. While the collections are nothing to hide their face from, not for a long time, the thing is that much more was expected given the hype and recognition, not to mention the nostalgic theme and the popular feeling it brings with it. An opening weekend collection of Rs. net 47.10 million is pretty decent, but not when the film’s budget and non-existent Christmas holiday push, combined with the performance of other biggies after the COVID-19 pandemic, are taken into account. Similarly a feature of Rs. 7.50 million net on his first Monday, Rs. net 6.75 million on its first Tuesday and Rs. 6 crore net on his first Wednesday, normal fall from its opening weekend, would have been more than acceptable if the opening weekend collections were up to the mark to begin with. The problem with 83 is that it simply does not bring the desired numbers into the mass pockets (read level 2 and 3 centers), where audiences surprisingly still abound with single screens and low-end multiplexes for a dubbed Telugu movie like Pushpa, while Although it appears at respectable levels in subways, especially in the advanced multiplexes, the business is being shared by Spider-Man: No Way Home and Pushpa. All of these factors combined have prevented the Ranveer Singh star, with an extended cameo from wife and producer Deepika Padukone, and directed by Kabir Khan, from either receiving the much-needed boost a holiday that the Christmas weekend usually guarantees, or from holding on far. better levels in his weekdays.
