How to watch the ball New Year’s Eve 2021 fall live, plus every TV special

The Gregorian calendar, commissioned by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582, has become more or less an international standard since its first adoption. Since Pope Gregory’s day, the shift from one year to the next has turned into many things for many people: ragers, Auld Lange’s sight and gathering in the icy cold Manhattan of New York to watch a ball fall.

Watching the ball fall has become a cornerstone of almost every New Year’s celebration – and New York has its own app so you can watch it for free without cable. But depending on the quality of the soiree, the experience of cutting and drying ball drops may not be what you are looking for. Fortunately, streaming has taken over all other parts of our lives, and New Year’s Eve is no exception. Here’s a mix of some traditional and much less traditional ways to dial into 2022.

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve with Ryan Seacrest

Where to see: ABC or Hulu

When: Starts at 20.00 ET

What is it: The traditional celebration on top of the Times Square celebration celebrates its own 50th anniversary, with more celebrities than you can shake a stick at. Based in New York with outposts in New Orleans and Puerto Rico, there will be a lot to remember.

Do you remember DJ D-Nice from his pandemic parties? He wants to be there. Do you remember Avril Lavinge? She wants to be there and make “Sk8er Boi” with another person you might remember, Travis Barker. Do you remember Big Boi? He’s going to do “The Way You Move”. Do you remember Macklemore with Ryan Lewis? They make “Can’t Hold Us”. Do you remember the trip? They want to be there. Etc.

Miley’s New Year’s party

Where to see: Peacock or NBC

When: Starts at 10:30 PM ET

What is it: An alternative to Secrest, Miley Cyrus and Saturday Night Live‘s Pete Davidson has taken Carson Daly’s cloak and is all about viral celebrities in Miami. Jack Harlow, Saweetie, 24kGoldn and Kitty Ca $ h all perform, so there’s a chance this one might actually be sexy.

Nashville’s Big Bash

Where to see: CBS or Paramount Plus

When: Starts at 20.00 ET

What is it: Another alternative to Ryan Secrest, but this one wears boots and spurs. CBS is all-in on a country lineup featuring Jason Aldean, Lady A, Blake Shelton, Darius Rucker, Brooks & Dunn, King Calaway and more.

New Year’s Eve live with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen

Where to see: CNN

When: Starts at 20.00 ET

What is it: Anderson and Andy are likely to continue the tradition of CNN reporters being wasted on live television. And this time they are joined by Duran Duran, Earth, Wind and Fire, poet Amanda Gorman, pandemic lesbian Leslie Jordan and cut to Katy Perry in Las Vegas, as well as reports from festivities around the country.

Dr. Dog’s last trip ever

Where to see: Nugs

When: Starts at 10:30 PM ET

What is it: If you like bouncing indie people, this Philadelphia-based show is probably the concert for you tonight. By chance, it is also Dr. Dog’s last concert ever. Catchy pophooks, a little psychedelia, those are fun things. And if you’ve never heard of the band, there’s no better place to start than the end. And there are plenty of gigs tonight at Nugs, including Galactic and The String Cheese Incident.

Insane Clown Posse’s biggest New Year’s Eve show on earth

Where to see: Rich

When: Starts at 20.00 ET

What is it: The ICP had to rearrange their Christmas shows so that they go all the way out to Juggalos. “This show will no doubt be an experience unlike any other ICP show before that,” they say on their website, where you can also purchase tickets to see the show in person if you’re in Detroit and have $ 125. But it’s a promise you can keep except ICP. Maybe they will finally reveal how magnets work.

Phish’s dinner and a movie

Where to see: LivePhish or YouTube

When: Starts at 20.30 EST

What is it: Although Phish is not doing its traditional personal concert for New Year this year, the band will stream three sets for free. The dinner portion of the show will feature recipes “chosen by the band and include Trey’s own recipe for Lemonade, a Roast Chicken with Lemon, a Lemon Pasta Vegetarian entree and for dessert: Lemon Bars,” according to the band’s Instagram. They want to raise money for the band’s WaterWheel Foundation.

TikTok New Year’s Eve

Where to see: TikTok

When: Starts at 22:15 ET

What is it: This year’s app will livestream their own celebrities tonight featuring Charlie Puth, Kali Uchs and Rico Nasty. They are joined by some TikToklebrities, such as average fashion blogger, scarlet_may.1, tracy.oj, cristiandennis, tyshonlawrence and 8illy.

Paris Hilton’s Paris World (in Roblox)

Where to see:

When: Starts at 23.00 ET

What is it: Paris Hilton is in the meta-verse. That’s what everyone wants these days, right? Paris Hilton in the meta-verse? Well, this is Paris Hilton is in the metaverse. If you’ve ever wanted to explore digital copies of her Beverly Hills property and its $ 325,000 dog mansion, this is the New Year’s party for you.
