Two inmates, 18 employees in BC prison test positive for COVID – BC

Two inmates and 18 employees in a prison with maximum security in BC have tested positive for COVID-19.

Correctional Services of Canada say they are monitoring the situation at the Kent Institution “closely.”

COVID testing is offered to inmates and staff, corrections said. Employees must take a quick test and give a negative test result before entering the site.

All staff and inmates at the Kent Institution west of Agassiz are wearing masks and all visitors are being actively screened, corrections said in a statement.

Personal visits are currently suspended at the facility.

Vaccines are offered to all inmates.

To date, 67.2 percent of Kent inmates are fully vaccinated, and 72.6 percent have received at least one dose.
