The baby was taken by EMS to a local hospital and was “shown to be in good health,” according to state troopers.

Lane wrote in the post that she had found the infant in a cardboard box near a row of mailboxes near her home.

“I’ve been processing my emotions all day and going through all the different scenarios and reasons, along with my boyfriend and family, for why something like this could have happened,” she wrote, suggesting parents were young and unaware of Alaska’s Safe Haven Law, after which parents can drop off their unwanted children at a local hospital, church or police station or fire station.

Lane pleaded with all who knew the mother to take action, as she may need medical attention or “may be in a desperate situation and feel abandoned.”

“It is clear that someone in our society felt so lost and hopeless that they probably made the hardest choice of their lives to leave the innocent life next to the road with nothing but some blankets and a name,” she wrote in the post. “But she named him! There’s some love there, even though she made a terrible decision.”

“Today I rescued a baby and I will probably think of Teshawn for the rest of my life,” Lane wrote.
