The Shang-Chi director wants to bring Jackie Chan to the sequel

When Black Panther strolled into theaters in 2018, breaking ticket records and securing Marvel Studios’ first ever Oscar victories at the Oscars. Despite its monetary and physical recognition, the film’s most significant impact was felt through the visualization of its predominantly black cast, which drew attention to black stories and their significance within the structure of a very diverse society.

Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings followed a similar path and gave the audience new representation as the Asian-American community bathed in the spotlight for the first time in the MCU. With a sequel confirmed and on the way, the involvement of more Asian actors has risen to prominence. Director, Destin Daniel Cretton, has a legendary idea.

In an interview with CinemaBlend, the director addressed the possible incorporation of the perfect add-on and said, “I mean, if we could get Jackie [Chan] into a movie that would be a lifelong dream for me. “Chan’s fame in Asian society is unparalleled and the audience felt his influence on Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings in many different ways. His involvement would be impeccable in a sequel depending on his position in the scope of the narrative. Cretton wants the idea driven into the universe with the hope of making the union a reality.

Shang-Chi (bus scene)

Shang-Chi, played by Simu Liu, is known for his incredible fighting skills, gaining knowledge from his unfortunate father as a teenager. The film highlights his skill in several different ways through engaging sequences that pay homage to former Asian action stars. First, of course, Bruce Lee immediately comes to mind if iconic battles appeared during the emblematic bush fight sequence. But the audience felt Chan’s impressions through Liu’s use of his jacket, which reflected Chan’s iconic style. In an interview with Corridor Crew, action designers Chris Cowan and Yung Lee confirmed that the creative team borrowed inspiration from the prominent Asian star.

That Shang-Chi the sequel is coming and it would be fascinating to see Chan join the awe-inspiring cast. Spider-Man: No Way Home delivered, evokes former villains and symbolic characters that audiences have adored and discussed since the long-awaited release. The inclusion of Chan in the fold would create the same level of excitement, not only from those who admire the project, but also from a cast whose actions come from the man himself. However, the Asain star’s focus is less on American film and more on Chinese cinema. By doing this, he hopes to establish himself as a smaller action star and more as an actor who can do action. The need to remain universal and show agility is essential for Chan, who wants to transform from being placed in a box for the rest of his acting career. Shang-Chi wanted to pull more of the action star out of Chan, but Tony Leung proved that an actor could tackle both successfully within the world Cretton has been able to create.

Shang-Chi has some of the most engaging action sequences in the MCU, and the limitless possibilities for where things can go only help create more excitement for what’s to come. Chan has a vision for this dynamite career, but the desire to see his inclusion come true if he gets the right role. Cretton wants the idea put into the universe, and recently the hunger to see more in the MCU has come true. In addition, there is a warning that possible villains may appear in the sequel, which could pave the way for Chan to bring his personality and aggression into Shang-Chi story. Tony Leung set the standard, but Chan can surpass it if he chooses to do so.

Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings is currently available for streaming on Disney +.
